Barnaby Joyce, a man who seemingly struggles with commitment—whether it be to his wife or political party—has taken a firm stance against abortion. At an anti-abortion rally in Sydney, Joyce declared that women should be obliged to carry through with the lifelong commitment of having a child. This is a rather bold statement from someone who has had his fair share of commitment issues.
Speaking at the rally, the senator, who has switched from the Nationals to One Nation, proclaimed that having a child is "the right thing to do." Curiously, Joyce did not clarify whether conceiving a child during an affair with a junior staffer also falls under the "right thing" category.
Joyce argued, "Having a baby is not like your wife or your political party. You can’t just leave it when you decide it’s not the one you want." He also expressed his opposition to terminating pregnancies for sex-selection, humorously adding, "The only selection I make about sex is YES."
This alignment with the pro-life movement is seen as One Nation's attempt to spark culture wars, marking a shift from their usual focus on opposing foreign cultures.
